The '90s was probably one of the most difficult times of รข€˜Vaastav' actor Sanjay Dutt's life; with him being booked under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA), due to his connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

It was this time when the actor was labeled as a terrorist by one and all. The actor and his family were left without any support in such crucial days; when Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackray came to their rescues.

In a recent interview; Congress leader and former Member of Parliament (MP); Priya Dutt who is also Sanjay Dutt's real sister was quoted saying that she and her family will "forever be indebted to Balasaheb Thackeray".

Priya Dutt was quoted saying," I remember at that time everybody used to give statements against our family and my brother, claiming that was a terrorist. And out of all those voices, I think there was one voice, who said that 'this boy cannot be a terrorist because his family has always worked for the people of the country'. And that was the voice of Balasaheb."

Dutt; who has announced her decision to not contest for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections this year further revealed," Balasaheb (supporting Sanjay) made a huge impact and a difference to Sanjay and to all of us. I think we were forever grateful and indebted to him for that. The bond between my father and him became so strong that sometimes my father used to go (to Balasaheb's place) and share a glass of wine with him."

Recounting her interaction with Thackray; the two time Lok Sabha Member said," I had gone to the jail to meet my brother and I was very upset. I saw my father sitting on a bench in one corner. It was a very frustrating time as my brother was not getting bail and nothing was happening. I was so frustrated that I got into the car and I don't know how I landed up at Balasaheb's house, alone. I had never gone there before. For me to be able to reach out to him, it meant a lot."

Sanjay Dutt's biopic; Sanju, was released last year by Rajkumar Hirani with Ranbir Kapoor essaying the role of Dutt. The film went on to break box office records and did a business of almost 350 crores. While; a biopic on Balasaheb Thackray, release on the 25th of this month and saw Nawazuddin Siddiqui playing the part of the Shiv Sena supremo.
